The four-year-old died after an operation to remove decayed milk teeth in 2011. Ten teeth needed to be removed.
The child who had to be given a general anaesthetic for the routine operation suffered bronchial spasm which lead to brain death and the died after the operation in Graz.
Originally the prosecutor opened an investigation into the doctors to investigate whether an error had been made, but this was not found to be the case.
The report found that the anaesthetic had been necessary due to the extent of damage to the teeth.
The report also found that the anaesthetic Propfol had not caused the child's death.
On Friday the court in Leoben, Austria sentenced the pair for neglect.
The mother was sentenced to a five month suspended sentence and the father to a seven month suspended sentence as he also was charged with two other offences not related to this.
The pair arrived in court without a lawyer.
